Not only is jícama fun to say, it's easy to make and a joy to eat. These spicy and crunchy fries make a terrific side dish, especially when you'd like to stray from traditional potato fries. This recipe was inspired by "Seasoned Jícama Fries" from Quick & Easy Paleo Comfort Foods by Julie and Charles Mayfield.
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon chipotle powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
2 jícama bulbs, peeled and sliced into thin strips
2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
Preheat oven to 400. In a small bowl, mix all of the seasonings. Coat the jícama strips in coconut oil, spread onto a baking sheet and sprinkle with the seasoning mix. Bake for 30-35 minutes, turning fries over (gently) with a spatula after about 20 minutes.
